5(ish) Questions for is a chance to discover and learn about St. Louis Creatives, Community Champions, and, well, just interesting people in and around our city. It's a deep dive into what they love and where their passion lies. It's an opportunity for all of us to see our region from a different perspective. This written interview is a peek into their lives and their outlook on St. Louis.

Hey Steve! Start with telling us a little about yourself…
Music and the community are my passions. I am the lead vocals of the St. Louis-based band, The Urge, and perform regularly with the Steve Ewing Band, the Steve Ewing Duo and Master Blaster. I own Steve’s Hot Dogs which has appeared in People Magazine and also featured on the Food Network, the Travel Channel and the Cooking Channel. I am also currently heading up a program called Feed The People through my restaurant which has provided more than 6,000 meals to first responders and those dealing with food insecurity in the St. Louis area.

What drives you, what gets you out of bed every morning?
My drive comes from the desire to create. And a need to stand out. Entertaining my silly ideas pushes me right into motion.

What are some of your goals for the next year and 5 years from now?
Some of my 5 year goals are getting even tighter with my family. I’d like to see myself still fired up about writing and recording new music with The Urge and Steve Ewing Band. In the near future, we’re working on expanding Steve’s Hot Dogs into St. Louis and St. Charles counties.

What inspires you about St. Louis?
St. Louisans inspire me all the time! I feel like we have to push really hard to be seen and heard. We embrace that need for hard work and create timeless art, music, food, medicine, technology…

What is a favorite neighborhood in St. Louis for you and why?
My favorite neighborhood is Tower Grove Heights!! I live there and Steve’s Hot Dogs is there! We have the sweetest residents and, of course, the best food in the city! The South Grand strip is truly a melting pot of incredible restaurants, and I'm thankful to live and work near it - and to be a part of it!

What do you do in your spare time?
I always make time at some point in the year to compete athletically. My wife and I used run a lot of races, but the last four years have been about bodybuilding! And with any left over time, I’m currently working on writing my first book.

But come find me playing with the Steve Ewing Band, Master Blaster or The Urge regularly. Visit www.steveewingmusic.net for the schedule.
