The Language of Form
Ben Lowder is a collector and a creator, and he understands the value of things, the heritage behind everyday materials, at an innate level. Eschewing new materials in favor of ones with patina, he gravitates toward objects of wood and metal that have lived former lives, using them to communicate an unexplored direction, a way forward, a new energy. Each new project carries a message: one of alignment and positioning, the precise movements of sacred geometry, the language of form repeating over and over throughout nature and forming the fabric of everything which surrounds us.
There is a wildness to his art: an offshoot from a family tradition of building with reclaimed wood, spun into something that reflects his own perspective. It is at once sharp and soft, with clearly defined lines that somehow blur between mediums, your eye returning to spaces within each piece again and again to take in the whole. He wonders if people will see it - the order in chaos, the very structures that give our world proportion and complexity - within his art. And they often do: some part of them sorting through a riot of color and texture to find the peace within, the sacred geometry working its magic, taking root in the way it has for Ben Lowder.
